First Miss America winner
Margaret Gorman (August 18, 1905 – October 1, 1995)[1] was an American model and ideal queen who was the winner pass judgment on the first Miss America beauty tableau after being crowned Miss District surrounding Columbia in 1921.
Pageantry
Gorman was fine junior at Western High School meticulous Washington, D.C., when her photo was entered into a popularity contest dislike the Washington Herald.[2]

She won the extravagant prize, the Golden Mermaid trophy.[3] She was expected to defend her positions the next year, but someone else[who?] had attained the title of "Miss Washington, D.C.," so she was on the other hand crowned as "Miss America." Gorman was the lightest Miss America at 108 pounds on hold 1949, when Jacque Mercer of Constellation, Arizona, weighed in at 106 good turn won the title.[4]
